PREVIOUS PROJECTS In 2010, to coincide with the general election, we organised an exhibition
called 'How the Vote was Won' at The Museum of Richmond, which documented the
work of the many writers and artists who contributed to the campaign for the
Vote. It also told the previously untold story of the many local people who
campaigned for the suffrage cause.
We also ran a successful programme of events including playreadings, talks
and guided walks in the borough to accompany the exhibition. In addition, we
delivered several educational workshops to schools and community groups in
West London on the subject of the Suffragettes, which is studied as part of
GCSE History and Citizenship.
(The project was supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund).
This project developed from an earlier one in 2009 to celebrate The
Centenary of the Actresses' Franchise League, where we worked with our local
theatre, The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, Surrey, to present an event to
the public made up of playreadings, monologues, academic talks and
discussion.
(The project was supported by Awards For All).
In conjunction with our sister company Aurora Metro Publications, we also launched a new collection of
plays called Votes
for Women and Other Plays in 2009 and published the book Art, Theatre and Women's Suffrage (above right) in 2010.
If you would like to research your own local suffragette history,
and post it on our educational website.
